Graduate Student information and roles
Using your UVACanvas workspace
Course Prerequisite
This course assumes that you already have a UVACanvas workspace (learn more about workspaces). We recommend that you practice the steps outlined in these tutorial videos to learn more about Canvas. It may be useful to open this course in one browser and your UVACanvas workspace in another browser. This will allow you to move back and forth between the tutorials and your UVACanvas workspace. If you do not see your UVACanvas workspace you can use this link 'How do I view all of my courses in Canvas Links to an external site.' to find it. All graduate students are given the role of a teacher in their Canvas workspaces.
There are not any roles or permissions specifically related to graduate students in UVACanvas. Your role in each course site determines what permissions you have in that site.
If a graduate student is enrolled in a SIS course roster as a student, they will have the Student role in the corresponding course site and the same permissions as a student in any other site (see UVACanvas Student 101). If a graduate student is enrolled in a SIS course roster as a TA or GTA, they will have the TA role (See UVA Canvas Instructor 101). If an instructor manually adds a graduate student to their site, the instructor can select the role they want to give the graduate student (Teacher, TA, Student, etc.) You can find details on the course roles and related permissions in UVACanvas here: What are Permissions and Roles?
